How do you get this part off? As I'd like to fit some lock stops.

Stu, i asked the same Q on another thread, i've left it on for the time being but i think a hacksaw wouldnt be long removing it.!

Out of interest, when i took the VTS arms out, there wasn't any fancy locking washers fitted at the rack side, did yours have them?

Nope. Never had them either.

I'll machine a couple of spacers up when I get time probably over the next few weeks when I can get to my dads.

Spacers?

why are they required?

The things i'm talking about are only about 1.5mm thick, and came as part of the new 205 arm kits, to sort of lock the arms in position at the rack end.

I was surprised when the VTS rack never had similar.

Spacers will limit my lock. As I've removed the ram you get more movement.

No it's only 6 speed gearboxes you need some kind of lock-stop for to prevent the nearside wheel hitting the gearbox on right hand turns. The extra gear means that the gearbox is longer and protrudes further into the nearside wheel arch.

5 speed gearboxes don't have the issue (unless the rack isn't central).

There is 10-15mm extra rack movement uf you remove the ram as it limits the rack travel

If you staying hydraulic its no issue or if you leave the ram on. Its just I want less drag snd weight.

Even if you're removing the ram, it's worth checking whether it's an issue - two people I know running de-PAS VTS racks haven't got any problems with tyres fouling against the gearbox that I'm aware of.

Different width/offset wheels and tyres will have an impact of course.

I'm gonna fit a vts rack, and at the same time put 309 wishbones on.

I want to try get my tracking and centralise the rack as best i can prior to going getting 4 wheel tracking done.

Does the following sound about right?

If i centre my steering/wheels just now I should be able to measure my TRE to TRE.

If my new rack is 2.6 lock to lock then at 1.3 turns the rack should be central.

If i then adjust my TRE's to the measurement previosly taken from the 205 rack, the TRE's should be quite close to suit 205 arms?

If above sounds reasonable, what sort of further adjustment (+ or -) of the TRE's should bring it close to being suitable for 309 arms? (If any)

TIA

As i have my engine out i'm gonna fit the VTS rack. The parts i've gathered are a 205 square drive lower column and a Ph2 vts rack.

The current bit poking through into the engine bay looks distinctly different from my new lower column and wasn't what i expected to see at all and i'm hoping it's the right parts i've got.

Is there any specific order that these parts should be fitted?

Do they need to be butted together and fitted as one? does it matter if i fit the column or rack first?

When i loosen my existing column from rack, is it then just a case of pulling the column into engine bay? And the reverse for fitting the new column?

Do i need to do anything at all in the cabin/under the dash?

Never done this before so any help/pounters/guidance would be a help.

TIA

What bolt WP?

I split column from rack, and it sits now with UJ sitting in bay.

Have you actually looked at the other end of the lower column? Because if you do that it's really very obvious what is required.
