Full Service Book

Recommended Posts

Ramigojag

When I bought the pug back in 2013, it had full service history all stamped up despite it being off the road for about 4/5 years. The last few stamps had gone across onto the next page.

It's had two services now under my ownership (its only done about 2,000 miles) and i've run out of room for stamps. What is everyone else doing? surely I'm not the only one with this issue.

Likely you're the only one still getting stamps in the book! Most people on here will be self servicing.

I honestly think the service book is irrelevent on these now, apart from the mintest of mint low mileage ones that are advertised for top dollar.

To say the service book is irrelevant is a stupid comment! It's a way to keep on top of your service intervals. His car has done 2k miles, but that might be over years :)

I personally had a 180k+ 205 which had full service history, it had 2 service books, as the first had been filled, the 2nd was then started where the room had ran out. Might be worth contacting a dealer to see if they'll provide a blank service book, or look into getting your self a copy made up :)

The previous owner of mine was self servicing and he would write on the receipt of the oil/filter etc the date and mileage that he serviced it. Whilst not in the book, it did demonstrate it was looked after.

I'm self servicing doesn't mean I don't stamp the book, I work in a garage so I use the garage stamp. The car has done about 124K, but in the last 2 years of me ownership its only done 2K miles is what I mean.

I may look into a second book then, it may not mean much or add any value, but I like having it and I'm not really intending on selling the car at least for the next few years.

I fail to see how it's a stupid comment Dan.

I, and many other people who self service, record things outwith the service book. In fact my excel based (backed up by receipts) record of all maintenance on my Volvo is far more informative than the dealer service book.

Perhaps you took my cpmment out of cpntext or misunderstood. If someone still gets their 205 serviced at a garage and wants to keep up the stamps in the book then there's no harm in it, I just think that at the age they are now there's little value in the book unless it's a mint high price example. So long as the owner can prove that the car is still being serviced and maintained in other ways. I'd much rather buy a 205 that was proven to be maintained by a competant enthusiast through anal record keeping, than one thats just got all the stamps in the book done by some random garage that may know f*** all about 205s.

Yeah, as do I - I do mine when I feel like it, usually twice a year (each end of the summer). I don't bother using any form of spreadsheet or database to keep track of my own cars.

You 'honestly think the service book it irrelevant' - its just a stupid comment, isn't it?

Most of the old boys and the general owner base who own these cars due to passion, rather than profiteering, will like things to be done how they should (for example the OP in this thread).

You say you would prefer to buy a 205 owned by an enthusiast? I have seen plenty of 'enthusiast' cars, and certainly I would not suggest anybody goes and buys them. very few people understand the subtle differences in parts, how to torque specifi bolts or how to align things which shouldn't just be bolted on. For example, I have personally helped many people on the forum where I can - like when I found a 1.6 ecu fitted to a 1.9 engine, with 1.9 afm and injectors, or where I found a pair of 306 hubs fitted to a 1.9 gti engine conversion in a 1.6 205, which was done by your 'enthusiast'.

you buy your car with full service history with main dealers, or even reputable garages, you atleast have a foot to stand on when things go wrong, or you can make yourself an educated decision as to what you're buying.

Your wall of text makes little sense, and if we're being honest here, you're just replying for the sake of an argument. your original reply was of no use to the thread whatsoever.

You're either being difficult for the sake of it, or.......you know what, forget it. Lets agree to disagree.

When I was selling my Rs1600i escort and my s2 RS turbo the first thing I was asked was any service history or old mots . People who want these kind of cars for investments want service books and old mot certs . Might not make car more valuable but it certainly helps sell the car .

You can get generic service books on eBay. They're probably a bit rubbish, but they'd do the job of continuing your service stamps/record! Like you, I think it's good to have a stamped book alongside the receipts, even at this age of car - and especially if it's complete up til now.

I guess a fully stamped book for a 205 would be a pleasant surprise for me personally as I wouldn't expect it. The service records I'd regard as equally important showing me what has been done at each visit.

I'd never though of having mine stamped tbh but it's there with all the history and supporting documents.

I've bought two blank generic service books off ebay. One for a separate car I'll see what they're like when they arrive.

Can you not get them from Peugeot any more? When I ran out of space in the book for my Elise, Lotus happily sold me another for £9.
