boldy205 74 Posted May 11, 2015 when using a 306 Gti6 engine on the standard 306 injection loom, with a Mi16 box in a 205 Gti, which speedo drive do I need? After searching I've found I need a early S16 item, would just like to know if this is correct? If so does it incorporate the VSS or is this separate? Thanks. welshpug 1,619 Posted May 11, 2015 yep, you need the 3 pin dual VSS/speedo drive unit, as used by the S16 but not exclusively, I have found them on 1.4 phase1 306's as well. use the 205 gear and pinion.
Slo 283 1 Cars Posted May 11, 2015 does it actually do anything to a gti6? or is it purely for ancillaries

Anthony 1,000 Posted May 12, 2015 does it actually do anything to a gti6? or is it purely for ancillaries You get a horrible flat-spot just off idle if it's missing or faulty and can be more prone to stalling when you slow down. (or rather, you usually do - some cars don't suffer the issue but most seem to)
boldy205 74 Posted May 12, 2015 281096026619 is the eBay No I've come up with, recon that's the one?

(or rather, you usually do - some cars don't suffer the issue but most seem to) I only ask as I have the old style speed sensor on my turbo engine that has the 2 pin connector and its main use was for the variable power steering and electronic stability program in the car it came from, having none of that in my 205 I feel its not needed but I wired it up to the speed ecu properly anyway and it seems to make no difference with it plugged in or not. 281096026619 is the eBay No I've come up with, recon that's the one? Service box is showing 2 different ones here are the part numbers and prices from the main dealer 6160 24 £76.80 6160 70 £56.08 I dont know the difference between them but its worth risking a £10/£12 rather than £56/£76 I would of thought
boldy205 74 Posted May 13, 2015 I was curious about its function on a converted car too, good to hear everyone's findings thanks.
welshpug 1,619 Posted May 13, 2015 if the engine was from a 406 you need to add a 12v or an earth (I dont recall offhand) and use a 3 wire vss.
Slo 283 1 Cars Posted May 13, 2015 this is presuming you have the speed module to begin with, the engines ecu doesnt just rely on the speed sensor in the gearbox alone
