Stripped Wheel Bolt Thread...options?

Recommended Posts

JamesE

When my replacement hub was fitted earlier on in the year one of the wheel bolt threads stripped in the hub.

When I've tried to use a new wheel bolt obviously it won't screw in. I'm presuming the bolt threads are sat in the hub threads. What's the easiest way to get them out?

Do I need to get a 'chase'? If so does anyone have a link?

Thanks

Ok so does tapping mean to recut the thread? If so won't it be a different size?

Try tapping it out. Put a new wheel bolt in and torque to 100Nm. If it won't tighten it will need helicoiling.

Strip off enough stuff to get a tap in from the back, there`s enough room.

I`ve found that enough undamaged thread remains at the bottom of the hole, to start it and guide it easily, use some lube too.
