What Size Engine Bearings

Recommended Posts

happypatrol

As some may know I'm rebuilding my standard 1.9 8v engine. This was originally a d6b block. It was cracked. But I sourced a dfz block. I'm now using my original crank from the d6b and putting it into the dfz.

I've had the crank measured by an engineer who said the size is 60mm main and 59mm on the big ends.

Can anyone advise me what size shells I need. I can't seem to find out what the standard size is anywhere. I'm almost sure it's not been regroups but I don't have the standard size to compare it to.

I'm keen to order these up and get my car back on the road asap before the summers gone ....

Any help would be good.

If anyone knows a good supplier also that would be great but the size is the main thing.

Cheers

Take it to an engine machine shop who can measure the crank journals properly and supply the bearings to suit.

I think you must have mis-heard/mis-remembered, as the big-end figure can't be right. They're 50.0mm as standard, and if it had been reground, would be 49.x mm

If it was 50.0mm you would need standard sized shells. If it was say 49.7mm then you would need +0.3mm oversized shells, etc.

Mains are 60.0mm as standard, so sounds like you need standard sized shells for those.

Mains should be 59.981 - 60.000 for standard shells

59.681 - 59.700 for +0.3

Big ends 49.680-50 standard

49.380-49.700 for +0.3

As I said before, get it accurately measured by someone that knows what they are doing.

You are wasting your time with a so called "engineer" who measures a crankshaft journal and tells you its "60mm", yeah I could measure that with a f***ing tape measure.

I have it written down at home. I was working from memory there as I'm at work up a 90metres up a wind turbine at the moment I do apologise. But yes that sounds correct.

I will order standard bearings now then.

Thanks a lot for the sizes guys.

I was hoping it would be standard. But with a car nearly 30 years old u never know.

Any suggestions on who could supply them. My local motor factor is clueless and I'm not confident they would order the right ones. Is a kit available with new thrust bearings ?

find a local engine/cylinder head specialist, my local is south wales pistons and they are very good, built quite a few engines with parts from them.

if you are unsure of the condition and sizing most places will mic up and supply to suit or regrind/polish as required.

I've got home and double checked.

It was 59.994mm and 49.987 mm

To be precise.

I'll order parts later. Spoke with engine parts uk today. Everything delivered inc thrust washers for £96. Sounds ok to me.

The local place here in Glasgow doesn't have a good rep. So I'll order online. Cheers again
