Help - Cambelt Orientation.........

Recommended Posts

sherly

Quick question as I'm halfway through the job........

I've just taken the cambelt off but didn't take note of the arrows on the belt. :)

Which way should they point? i.e what is the direction of engine rotation.

(8v 1.6 XU)

Cheers,

Mart :)

Arrows tend to follow rotation of the engine. Which is usually clockwise.

Yup - I probably should've mentioned that it was clockwise (when looking at cam pulley end of engine)

It doesn't make any difference as belts are uni-directional but its always nice to have them look right.

wouldn't the marking s be meaningless if they were the wrong way round? or is that only on cars with more than one cam?

It's so that if you re-use the same belt its going in the same direction as it was before. Probably something to do with forces and the strength of the belt and other such physics :P

Personally I'd get a new belt anyway unless it had been changed very recently.
