Recommended Posts

DaveK

im in the middle of taking the engine out the pug but i dont have 34 socket to take the hub nut off.

can i take the driveshafts out without taking the hub off? even if i tie them up in the time being and take them out properly before fitting the new engine

cheers

What about taking them off attached to the hub? Take the hub off the strut/wishbone/track rod end and remove the lot as one.

or even with the strut still attatched, but released from the top mountings?

(actually think this will only work on the shorter shaft)

i am sure there is two different sizes , a 32 and a 34 , mine was a 32 ( i think) glad to see you are gonna get a socket , i would've been a pain in the arse to do it the other way

AFAIK it's 35mm for 1.9 and 32mm?? for 1.6

Although as with all bolts on 205's I think there is some variation!

I had a different sized one on my GKN driveshaft...

And make sure you have a decent [length] breaker bar as well! They should be done up VERY tight.

1.9 GTi with oe bolts should be 35mm but some replacement shafts come with 36mm ones afaik.

Rear hub nuts are 32mm on all models.

The front hub nuts on the base & 1.6 GTi is 30mm.

Graham.

You can always leave the driveshaft in the hub and simply pop the wishbone out of bottom of the hub each side, but loosen the two 11mm nuts on the drivers side driveshaft and give it a sharp tap towards the drivers side wheel to loosen it and this should make sure you don't pull the CV joint apart where it comes out of the engine mount bracket.

30mm on my 1.6 and 36mm on my 1.9 (good job really as 35mm sockets seem to be extinct round here!) a bit of scaffold pole is the best friend u can have for these :D
