Can Arp Big End Bolts Be Fitted In Situ?

Howdoo peeps,

 

Ive got a PeterT stage 1 inlet and chip fitted now, with the increased rev limiter, and im starting to get a little worried about one of the stock big end bolts letting go at these sort of RPM's.. So, im wondering if it might be worth investing in a set of ARP big end bolts to set my mind at ease.

 

Sooo.. can the ARP's be fitted in situ? Or will the pistons/rods have to come out to fit them?

just need to drop the sump off to fit them.

Yea, you just need the sump off, then you can turn the engine over to gain access to each rod when its at BDC. Check this installation information out http://www.arp-bolts.com/Tech/TechInstall.html

im sure i remember having to have a bit of machining done on the rods/caps for the bolts when i had mine fitted

A swift whack or two with a hammer. Although I left the nut on sitting proud of the bolt to save mashing the threads.

As mentioned above, I'm sure you have to put a chamfer on the hole in the rod with ARP's, so yes new bolts can be fitted in situ but not ARP's.

Neither did I, biggest issue I had was taking the old bolts out.

Same here - went straight in, no issues (on XU9J4 stock bottom end, though, should they be any different...?)

it was xu9j4 rods that i had arp bolts fitted to from what i remember they almost fit but probably need slight machining to fit properly
